Business Experience  From Naval Shipbuilding to the Built Environment

The foundation of Gobar starts with the introduction of cross-industry knowledge in a fragmented construction industry for the purpose of standardization. Digitalization in naval shipbuilding was already well advanced in the mid-1990s . From iron to demolition, the Product Lifecycle Management process was well structured and digitalized.

At that point, key-players in the Dutch construction industry were looking for the regularisation of processes and information throughout the lifecycle of asset management. By applying cross-industry experience in a standardization program, one of the first open Dutch BIM standards was born.

We advanced Gobar’s development through our active participation in international networks and regulation institutes like ISO and CEN, resulting in the creation of a body of knowledge of open BIM-standards. The transference of cross-border expertise was crucial when participating in the creation of national BIM-guidelines, e.g. in the Netherlands and Germany.

The customer experience and practical applicability of open standards are key. Feedback from our customers helps us to optimize standard methodologies. Actors in the industry that apply standards benefit from these improvements accordingly.
